Escape to Eden

The lovely folk at Encounter Eden are planning a new visitor experience for the historic market town of Kirkby Stephen. The town, on the River Eden, is at the meeting point of some remarkable designated landscapes – Yorkshire Dales National Park, Lake District National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape – and is on the popular Coast to Coast national trail (as well as being the starting point for some incredibly scenic local walks and cycle routes).

But, being on a host of historic drove roads, coaching routes, walking trails and a key east-west tourist route means people tend to pass through rather than stop. Encounter Eden is hoping that a new heritage attraction will help attract visitors and encourage them to stay longer, to learn more about and explore the town and Upper Eden, and to benefit local businesses. I’m delighted to be working with longstanding colleagues Rob Robinson and Marcus Byron to prepare an interpretation and visitor engagement strategy for the new experience.
