You can’t dampen our enthusiasm!
There was an appropriately biblical deluge during my recent site visit to historic St Peter’s Church in Bywell, between Newcastle and Hexham, with fund-raising colleague Katherine Williams. Fortunately, our meetings were inside; nevertheless, the rain thundering on the roof threatened to drown out our words once or twice!
We’ve been commissioned by the church team to explore opportunities for increasing the use of the church by congregation, community and visitors, alongside proposals for repairs and new facilities. We met around 30 wonderfully engaged and enthusiastic local people, who were keen to share their thoughts and aspirations for St Peter’s – a much greater turnout than we’d dared hope for, given the dreadful weather. We’ll be taking all their comments on board as we start shaping a vision for the church. A key element will be strengthening the relationship with its equally historic next door neighbour, St Andrew’s, which is cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust.
By the way, this photo was taken on an earlier site visit. There was no chance of taking pictures outside on this trip!
