ROCHDALE TOWN HALL: HERITAGE ACTIVITY PLAN & CONSULTATIONS

This historic Grade I listed Town Hall is undergoing an exciting multi-million pound restoration, following Rochdale Development Agency’s successful bid to the NLHF.

I worked with Carolyn Lloyd Brown to develop an exciting, achievable and engaging heritage activity plan to support the restoration and redevelopment of the building. A key task for me was to organise and deliver a series of consultations with local individuals and groups to guide the development of the activities, ensuring the proposals would attract, engage and involve local people and visitors in the restoration work, generate new interpretive resources for when the Town Hall reopens, and build awareness, confidence and skills in the local community.

The Borough’s population is diverse, multicultural and growing. The key to success for the activity plan was to identify effective ways to engage young people, young families and older residents with this extraordinary building and its heritage treasures.

The Town Hall's stained glass is one of its most notable features and a specialist team has been employed to repair and conserve it as part of the restoration process.
The Great Hall on the Town Hall's first floor is richly decorated with painted panels, carved wood features and colourful stained glass, all of which is being cleaned and restored as part of the refurbishment
